Images say more than a thousand words, and that is a fact. So many excellent documentaries these days that will tell you much more about our world challenges and what WE can do to solve them. Some examples are stated below:
Of course, you all remember Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient truth’ (2006). Have you not seen it? Please do, it is an absolute must. A breakthrough movie in every aspect, raising awareness about the Earth’s climate crisis. It provides a good overview of the severeness of the climate crisis we all face. Leave out the very American reflection on how he did not become a president, and the movie is perfect.
Even better is the Leonardo di Caprio’s 11th Hour (2007). While Gore gives a slight show and presents facts, diCaprio gives not only facts and an overview of the climate crisis and the consequences, but also provides solutions and presents hopeful developments in the technological and individual sphere. More than 50 well-known politicians, scientists, and environmental activists reflect on the many grave problems the planet’s life systems are facing. Global warming, deforestation, mass species extinction, and depletion of the oceans’ habitats are all addressed.
You certainly do not want to miss the movie Food Inc. It answers the questions: where does our food come from, how far does it travel, do people working in the food industry get treated well, how good is the control on the quality of our food, what can be the consequences if we continue these practices, how do animals get treated, and why do we hear so little about the practices in the food industry? It certainly is an eye-opener. As their website states: ‘We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.’ Where did we go wrong and what can we do to turn this around? The answer actually lies with you, us, the consumer. With every single item you buy, you make a vote!
Another very powerful movie about food: Our Daily bread. It only shows images, no sounds or music of any kind. All the more powerful.
We all know fast food isn’t the healthiest food on earth. Want to know more about the consequences of eating that food every day, for you and for the people working in the industry, the animals and the gigantic companies running this circus? Watch:
